The Taskel Brand
The new symbol of Glasgow, the Taskel, is the evolution of an ancestral element known for thousands of years: the spiral of life.
This ancient element, that was present in many primitive cultures, is a motif consisting of a triple spiral exhibiting rotational symmetry. The meaning of this olden symbol is one of the most convoluted to decipher because symbolists believe it is reflective of many cultures, time periods and mythologies.
It is interesting to note that the number three represents a moving forward of energy. It could be thought that all three arms are positioned to make it appear as if it is moving, representing the motion of action, cycles, progress, revolution and competition. Three is the number of the whole, containing a beginning, a middle and an end.
The design team of Greatest Glasgow Awards has modernised that ancient symbol, adapting its meaning to Glasgow. The Taskel now connects its ancestral significance with new layers of meaning.
It represents the awareness of the oneness of the spirit through the past, present and future, in a place connected to all three: Glasgow.
Besides, the Taskel is the symbol of excellence, perfection and forward movement. A great symbol for the Awards of the Excellence of Glasgow.
From ancient times…
…to the Excellence of Glasgow.
